The Boston Foundation has announced the launch of an annual prize competition to recognize excellence in a Greater Boston charter school.
The Pozen Prize carries an $80,000 award. It was created by the foundation with help from donors Robert and Elizabeth Pozen. Each year, one charter school that shows excellence in both quantitative and qualitative measures will be selected, the foundation said in a statement.
“This prize recognizes the unmatched speed with which charter public schools have been able to use their autonomy and school-based decision making to improve the lives of students who otherwise would have no options. We thank the Pozens for making it possible,” Paul S. Grogancq, President and CEO of the Boston Foundation, said in the statement.
Robert Pozen, a former top executive of Fidelity Investments and MFS Investment Management, is a senior lecturer at Harvard Business School and a senior research fellow at the Brookings Institution. Elizabeth Pozen is a retired psychotherapist who is now a figurative artist.
