Akamai Technologies on Wednesday announced a new set of programs and components, dubbed the Open Platform Initiative, which seeks to give customers greater control of and visibility into Akamai’s technology.
One ultimate aim is to create more opportunities for community collaboration around Akamai’s cloud services.
The announcement was made during Akamai’s annual Edge customer conference in Maryland.
The focal point for the initiative, Akamai said, is a public web property for developers and technical personnel, which will provide access to education, downloads, documentation and resources related to Akamai (Nasdaq: AKAM).
Cambridge, Mass.-based Akamai said it is working with application programming interface expert Apiary to bring Akamai’s APIs to developers, customers and partners.
The initiative is also making it easier to combine Akamai solutions with services from organizations such as data analytics firm Sumo Logic, Akamai said.
