Pennant tilt boosts Boston business

(NECN: Peter Howe, Boston) It’s a time of year Boston and New England would be inundated with autumn-loving foliage-seeking tourists anyway.

But the Greater Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau estimates each Boston Red Sox-Detroit Tigers American League Championship Series game played in Boston will pump $3.1 million into the city’s economy. The Sox and Tigers are set to play Saturday and Sunday evenings a little after 8 p.m. Then they go to Detroit. If the series makes it to a game six and game seven, those would be played at 4:37 p.m. Saturday and 8:07 p.m. Sunday at Fenway.

The Sox-Tigers match comes as Boston was already full of tourists coming to enjoy the weather and head north around New England for autumn foliage.

“We’ll spend a little bit,” laughed Justin Abshire, in from The Woodlands, Texas. “It’s not a cheap weekend.”

But his wife Katy added: “It’s just all about enjoying it.”
