Carl Chudnofsky has been named the honoree of the annual MetroWest Jewish Day School (MWJDS) Gala, to be held on Sunday, Dec. 15, at 5 p.m. at Temple Reyim in Newton. Also being recognized is Malka Young, recipient of this year’s Keter Shem Tov Award.
Chudnofsky has been a community activist and leader for over 35 years in the MetroWest and Greater Boston Jewish communities. He was one of the original founders and supporters of MetroWest Jewish Day School (MWJDS), is a former member of the MWJDS Board of Directors, and served on the Governance Committee. He currently serves on the Board of Overseers at Hebrew College and is the Chair of Development.
Chudnofsky previously served on the National Commission of the Anti-Defamation League and the New England Regional Board. He served as President of the MetroWest Jewish Federation and was on the CJP Executive Committee for several years. He was also Co-President of the Bureau of Jewish Education and served on the boards of the Greater Boston Jewish Community Center and Hebrew Senior Life.
Young has worked as a social worker in Framingham for the past 25 years and is currently the Director of Community Impacts at Jewish Family Service of Metrowest (JFSMW). In this role, Young mentors JFS professionals as they identify families with young children and work to connect them with the Jewish community and with each other. She also oversees cutting edge programs to support older adults in the community to maintain their independence, acknowledging each generation’s essential role in building and strengthening our community.
Under Young’s leadership, JFS developed Kesher 13, an intergenerational program that connects isolated Jewish elders living in community facilities with fifth grade students and their parents. Kesher 13 has been replicated across the country and earned the coveted Goodman Award for innovative Jewish Communal Services.
The MWJDS Gala will be an evening of ceremony and celebration with an exciting and glamorous Red Carpet theme. Award winning comedian, Jimmy Tingle will be performing; the evening will also feature a silent auction, buffet dinner and dessert reception. All are welcome to salute Carl and Malka and support the only pluralistic Jewish day school between Route 128 and Worcester by attending the event.
