MAPS celebrates accomplishments at annual meeting in Cambridge

The Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers is in an excellent position fiscally and programmatically this year, according to Executive Director Paulo Pinto who spoke at the annual meeting held Oct. 22 in Cambridge.

The agency, which serves Portuguese speakers and others throughout Greater Boston, Greater Lowell and the Framingham area, has a budget of more than $3 million for the first time in its 43-year history, said Pinto. Board President Elizabeth Chaves also announced that the agency’s endowment had reached a landmark $250,000 last June after 10 years of existence and that its 2013 awards gala last spring was its most successful ever, raising more than $130,000.

Pinto and Chaves thanked the board, staff, funders, donors and other supporters who made MAPS’ successes possible and helped MAPS serve more than 8,500 people during fiscal 2013, which ended June 30.
