The holidays should be a time for families to gather and celebrate together. But for many in the Boston area, the Christmas season only reinforces the need that they feel. It is this need that Globe Santa has been addressing since 1956.
So far, the organization has received calls for help from the families of over 45,000 children in Greater Boston, a number that, thankfully, is lower than last year. With a week left to go before Christmas, Globe Santa had raised a little more than half of the estimated $1.1 million needed to give gifts to every child on its list, with more coming in every hour. The generosity of people and businesses in the Boston area can go a long way toward making sure that every child gets a package, including toys and a book, this year. And because all of the organization’s administrative costs are covered by the Boston Globe Foundation, all contributions go directly to buying and delivering gifts for kids.
Christmas shouldn’t be a time of want for Boston’s poorest. A donation to Globe Santa can go a long way toward brightening up a child’s holiday season.
