Whether you have been doing yoga for years or finally want to give it a try — there’s a new business in Medford that can accommodate you.
Denver-based yoga company CorePower Yoga opened the doors to its 312 Mystic Ave. studio at the end of October. This is the second location in the Greater Boston area with plans to open up to three to four additional locations in 2014.
“There has been so much anticipation for another CorePower Yoga studio since we opened the Fresh Pond Studio in Cambridge in July,” said Carrie Seyer, the Medford location’s studio manager. “We couldn’t be more excited to grow our CorePower Yoga community in the Boston area.”
CorePower strives to increase awareness and widespread adoption of yoga by making yoga accessible to all fitness levels through a variety of yoga styles, convenient class times and numerous studio locations.
The company’s unique and physically challenging style of power yoga combines music, movement, breath, heat and community to create a one-of-a-kind yoga experience.
CorePower was founded in 2002 and now has 86 studios in 12 states.
The Medford studio is home to two spacious yoga rooms and features a range of amenities including changing rooms, showers and private lockers as well as a full retail boutique with men’s and women’s active wear as well as a variety of accessories.
A variety of yoga class styles for all levels are offered including CorePower Yoga’s dynamic heated Power Yoga in beginner to advanced formats, Yoga Sculpt and Hot Power Fusion.
In addition, the studio will offer lifestyle programs such as boot camps and wellness cleanses to provide students with cross-training opportunities.
Seyer said there are many benefits to doing yoga including increased flexibility and core strength, decreased anxiety and stress, improved posture, sleep quality and digestions as well as promoting detoxification of internal organs. She said yoga really does offer something for everyone.
“I fell in love with it literally my first week,” said Seyer.
Seyer said CorePower is a great place for those who have been doing yoga for years as well as those who are trying it out for the first time. She encourages anyone interested in seeing the studio to come down and have a look.
“You’ve got nothing to lose,” said Seyer, adding CorePower offers a free week to all new students.
Seyer said the early feedback from students in Medford has been very positive with many saying it’s the best workout they’ve ever had. She hopes local residents will continue to give CorePower a try.
In the coming months, Seyer looks forward to getting around to the business community and hopefully be able to work with them on different partnerships.
“I absolutely adore the Medford community,” she said. “I’m excited to get to know the Medford community.”
Speaking from experience
Seyer said those who have taken CorePower up on their offer have not been disappointed. She herself was a CorePower student when she was living in Chicago.
Seyer suffered a knee injury while skiing, decided to give yoga a try and took advantage of CorePower’s first free week. She has been involved with the company ever since.
“CorePower is definitely a unique place,” said Seyer. “They do a great job of making yoga accessible to anyone and everyone. It’s just a great company.”
Seyer’s experience as a student inspired her to become a yoga teacher, something she did through CorePower. She said in the company’s teacher training program, wannabe instructors learn about anatomy, philosophy and everything that goes into yoga.
“Teacher training is great,” said Seyer. “It definitely changed my life.”
The Medford studio recently held its first teacher training program, which yielded 15 graduates, and are already planning for the next program in February.
