True strength pushes vanity aside.
Boston, MA (PRWEB) February 28, 2014
Today, Small Army for a Cause announced that they have awarded more than $120,000 in grants from the proceeds of their 2013 Be Bold, Be Bald! fundraising event. Grants have been gifted to beneficiaries including Heaps of Hope ($15,500), The Jimmy Fund ($14,000), The Leukemia Lymphoma Society ($8,000) and more than thirty other cancer charities.
On October 18, 2013, thousands of people across the country wore bald caps or shaved their heads to honor cancer fighters and raise money for cancer-related charities. For the event, participants are able to choose the cancer charity for which they would like their proceeds to benefit, and Small Army for a Cause granted 100% of the funds raised specifically for each organization to their respective causes.
“What an honor it was to be selected as a beneficiary of the 2013 event,” said Krystle Gervais, Campaign Specialist for The Leukemia Lymphoma Society. “The funds raised through this program not only help provide resources and support services to those fighting cancer, but they also help LLS continue to perform lifesaving blood cancer research worldwide. As Be Bold, Be Bald! continues to grow, we’re looking forward to garnering even more support in the year ahead.”
To get involved, individuals and teams can register online for Be Bold, Be Bald!, and can select the beneficiary they’d like to support. Once registered, participants gain access to a variety of fundraising tools and have the option to get a bald cap, t-shirt and a variety of other materials for the event. The event takes place annually on the third Friday of October, with the 2014 event scheduled for October 17.
“We are honored to bring so many amazing people and organizations together each year,” stated Jeff Freedman, Founder of Small Army for a Cause. “It is both inspiring and heart-warming to see people from around the world come together to support friends and loved ones who bravely battle this disease. ”
Be Bold, Be Bald! was founded by Small Army for a Cause, a 501c3 non-profit organization committed to helping raise awareness and funds for medical-related causes. Small Army for a Cause was founded in 2008 by Boston Advertising Agency, Small Army, to honor its late co-founder, Mike Connell, a 2-time cancer survivor who lost his third battle against the disease in November 2007.
