Former Boston Mayor Thomas Menino will join the board of the Big Sister Association of Greater Boston, the organization announced Monday.

His two-year term begins in May.

During his tenure as mayor, Menino created the Girls’ Campaign, which is a consortium of organizations that serve girls and address issues facing them. Menino also founded the Boston Youth Fund to help connect high schoolers with jobs and pay the companies and organizations – Big Sister among them – that do the hiring.

Menino’s dance card is beginning to fill up.

On Feb. 27, Blue Hills Bank announced that Menino had agreed to join its board. Blue Hills Bank was founded in Menino’s neighborhood of Hyde Park and used to be called Hyde Park Savings Bank. It has been Menino’s personal bank for years.

Menino also is the co-director of  Boston University’s Initiative on Cities, which will convene city leaders worldwide to share information. The other co-director is  Graham Wilson, a professor in Boston University’s College of Arts Sciences and chair of political science.
