The National Weather Forecast is calling for a mix of rain and snow through Wednesday and into Thursday.

Today will be dry and mild, but a strong low pressure system will track across southern New England on Wednesday and into early Thursday. Heavy rain will be the primary precipitation across Greater Boston.

Far northwest Mass. and southern New Hampshire could experience a period of heavy snow and freezing rain. Most locations will end as a bit of snow on Thursday morning.

Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 53. West wind 11 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 36. West wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm after midnight.

Wednesday: Rain likely, mainly after 2pm. Cloudy, with a high near 46. Calm wind becoming east 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Wednesday Night: Rain before 5am, then rain and snow likely. Low around 26. East wind 7 to 9 mph becoming north after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Thursday: Snow likely, mainly before 7am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 27. Blustery, with a northwest wind 13 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 12. Blustery.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 36.
