The National Weather Service is keeping close watch on a weather system that could bring a winter storm to the Greater Boston area.

While weather models still differ in the amount and type of precipitation, this is looking like an event that will mostly effect the Cape and the Islands, with minimal snow or rain for the rest of the region.

Today Sunny, with a high near 29. Light north wind becoming west 6 to 11 mph in the afternoon.

Tonight Mostly clear, with a low around 18. Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph.

Tuesday Partly sunny, with a high near 36. Light southwest wind becoming south 6 to 11 mph in the morning.

Tuesday Night Snow likely, mainly after midnight. Cloudy, with a low around 26. Southeast wind 7 to 14 mph becoming north after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Wednesday Snow likely, mainly before 9am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 37. Breezy, with a northwest wind 23 to 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
