The Boston Globe Launches New Weekly Real Estate Section, ADDRESS – Virtual

Enhanced 12-plus-page section leverages visual elements for high impact; new features and columns offer a definitive guide to buying, selling and living in Greater Boston and beyond.

Boston, MA (PRWEB) March 28, 2014

The Boston Globe will launch a new, expanded real estate broadsheet section, called ADDRESS, on Sunday, March 30.

The 12-page weekly section replaces the existing tabloid real estate section, with new features, writers, columns, photos and visual elements.

The section will continue to include the popular “Home of the Week” feature by Globe reporter John Ellement, which will be expanded and show more photos. It will also have new features and columns that focus on the lifestyle, rather than the business, of real estate.

“Stories about whether to refinance your mortgage will continue to be covered in the Business section,” said Doug Most, the Globe’s deputy managing editor for special sections and new initiatives. “Stories about how to spend the money on your house that you save by refinancing your mortgage, that’s something that could be covered in ADDRESS.”

The editor of ADDRESS will be Eileen Woods, a 15-year Globe veteran, who was previously a copy editor for the Boston Globe Magazine, where she wrote the “On the Block” real estate column.

ADDRESS differs from the previous Boston Globe real estate section, casting a wider net and broadening its focus to cover topics and trends relevant to anyone with an address: whether buyers or renters, empty-nesters, second-home buyers or millennials renting their first apartment.

“The Greater Boston real estate market is dynamic, one of the hottest in the country,” said Most. “Even if you’re not thinking of moving, when a home in your neighborhood hits the market, there is endless fascination with how it looks, how busy the open houses are, and how much it eventually sells for. The section will speak as much to people who are considering a move as to those who simply are interested in improving their homes. There will be profiles, stories on real estate trends, and a special focus on neighborhoods.”

The new ADDRESS section will include:

  • One major feature on the section’s front page, with compelling graphics or photos.
  • “Location, Location, Location,” a full-page column highlighting a new neighborhood, street or town each week, and what defines the place, its people and culture.
  • “One Great Room,” a highly visual column that will feature a beautiful room each week and provide close-up details of the space.
  • A full-page advice column, “Ask,” will feature three columnists giving advice on everything from home improvement to gardening to interior design to mortgages to home sales.
  • “My First Home,” a first-person essay sharing the funny, sad, scary, educational, mistake-filled experience of buying or renting a first home.
  • “Home of the Week,” the popular feature from the existing section with a bolder, expanded look, occupying a full page, with more photos and longer accompanying article.
  • A full-page “Real Estate Transactions” section with detailed listings, showing the price, size and scope of the property sold, customized to each circulation zone so readers can see listings from their area. This new section is complemented by traditional real estate listings for those readers looking to buy.

The Globe’s new ADDRESS section debuts Sunday, March 30, 2014. All content will also be available to subscribers at bostonglobe.com/address, and readers can also follow ADDRESS news on Twitter @BostonGlobe.
