Events in Boston, Everett support veterans

(NECN: Katelyn Tivnan: Everett, Mass.) – Sunday, two separate events in Greater Boston had one single mission – to show support and appreciation for our nation’s veterans.

Hundreds of military families boarded duck boats in Boston as a part of the Red Sox Foundation’s and Massachusetts General Hospital’s Home Base Program.

The program is aimed at helping the families recover from the invisible wounds of war. Outings like this one provide a fun, family-friendly experience.

Nearby, thousands of motorcycle riders geared up for the Riders for Boston’s Wounded Vet Run.

The 40-mile ride to raise money for wounded veterans. Approximately $20 per bike is donated by riders.

This year’s ride is particularly important because a celebration of the Valor Act II signing will occur at the conclusion of the ride. The Valor Act II provides financial support in order to make modifications to veteran’s homes.

Proceeds from this year’s event will aid three local injured veterans.
