Boston Mayor Marty Walsh announced that he’s looking to hire a chief digital officer, a job that will “re-imagine and integrate the city’s public interfaces, including the city of Boston website, TV station and social media.”

Walsh, who made the announcement in a Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce speech today, said the position, which will be located in the city’s Department of Information and Technology, will be filled after a national search.

Walsh also announced a new, as-yet unnamed program to assist Boston startups with the goal of continuing to raise the city’s innovative profile. The initiative will help entrepreneurs gain a better understanding of their businesses’ needs, struggles, and growth plans, Walsh said. A name for the initiative is currently being crowd-sourced in Boston’s innovation community and followers can tweet suggestions to #StartBostonUp.

In addition, a startup incubator will open in the Ferdinand Building in Dudley Square, in the heart of Roxbury. Housed in the new headquarters of the Boston Public Schools alongside new retail and community space, the incubator will be about 4,000 square feet, and will serve as a resource for startups seeking assistance with business service.
