BOSTON — A 24-hour regional training exercise for emergency response personnel will occur in the Greater Boston area this weekend.
The exercise known as Urban Shield: Boston will involve 2,000 emergency personnel from multiple departments and run from 8 a.m. Saturday to 8 a.m. Sunday.
Responders will run exercises responding to 11 different kinds of mass casualty events that could occur in the region, like a mass shooting or building collapse.
“As we saw last year during the Boston Marathon attacks, our first responders are well trained to handle any situation,” said Mayor Martin J. Walsh in a statement.
“Urban Shield: Boston is a unique training exercise that enables our first responders to work collaboratively in a simulated environment so they can operate effectively in real-world scenarios,” said Walsh.
The first Urban Shield: Boston exercise took place in 2011.
