Wages are accelerating in greater Boston faster than they’re accelerating in the country overall and in many metropolitan areas, the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics recently reported.
Total average compensation for private sector workers in Boston grew 2.0 percent during the 12 months that ended March 2014, the government reported. For the prior year, wages grew 1.6 percent.
Nationally, wages grew by 1.7 percent during the 12 months that ended in March.
Here’s the total compensation cost increase for the 12 months ended in March in 16 U.S. cities, as reported by the BLS:
Atlanta: 1.2 percent
Boston: 2.0 percent
Chicago: 1.6 percent
Dallas: 2.2 percent
Detroit: 1.8 percent
Houston 1.8 percent
Los Angeles: 1.3 percent
Miami-Fort Lauderdale: 1.7 percent
Minneapolis-St. Paul: 1.6 percent
New York: 1.4 percent
Philadelphia: 1.6 percent
Phoenix: 1.4 percent
San Jose and San Francisco: 3.6 percent
Washington D.C.-Baltimore: 1.5 percent
Seattle: 1.7 percent
U.S. overall: 1.7 percent
