A 23-year-old Boston native dethroned the reigning World Series of Poker Player of the Year on Tuesday in the “Big One For One Drop” charity poker tournament in Las Vegas. His $15 million in winnings are the tournament’s second largest payout so far, according to the Associated Press.
Online poker celebrity Daniel Colman outlasted 41 other competitors over a period of three days to beat famed World Series of Poker Player of the Year Daniel Negreanu, who took second place and won $8 million. Negreanu was the event’s champion for the past two years, garnering a total of more than $31 million in winnings.
The Las Vegas Sun reported that Colman had to be persuaded to pose with the prize money and bracelet that the winner always receives before he declined all press interviews.
