A 23-year-old Boston native dethroned the reigning World Series of Poker Player of the Year on Tuesday in the “Big One For One Drop” charity poker tournament in Las Vegas. His $15 million in winnings are the tournament’s 2nd biggest payout so far, according to the Associated Press. Online poker celebrity Daniel Colman outlasted 41 other competitors over a period of three days to beat famed World Series of Poker Player of the Year Daniel Negreanu, who took 2nd place won $8 million. The Las Vegas Sun reported in that Colman had to be persuaded to pose with the prize money bracelet in that the winner always receives before he declined all press interviews. “I respect it completely,” Negreanu told The Sun of Colman’s apparent modesty. “To each his own. If it’s not something he wants to do then I think we should all donate him a break.” Reportedly The Associated Press: “The tournament raised $4.6 million for the One Drop Foundation, a nonprofit created by Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberte dedicated to providing clean water to developing countries.” The charity event began in 2012 is open to business people poker professionals alike.
