Thunderstorms are rumbling through the region this afternoon.
The storms are likely to bring gusty winds, said National Weather Service meteorologist Bill Simpson. Simpson said some could cause some damage, as well as heavy downpours that could cause local urban and poor-drainage flooding. The storms will be “gradually dropping off” throughout the afternoon, Simpson said, and diminishing by sunset.

“Nothing unusual,” Simpson said of the storms. But “always pay attention, of course.”
The rest of the day will be mostly cloudy, with high temperatures in the low 80s and a threat of showers throughout, until about 9 p.m. The clouds will clear gradually overnight, while temperatures drop to the low 60s.
On Thursday, the chance for showers and storms returns after noon. Thursday’s storms threaten to bring gusty winds and some hail to Greater Boston and other parts of the state, the weather service said.
“It’s just a different environment,” Simpson said of the weather system that could bring the hail on Thursday.
Otherwise, the day will be cloudy, with high temperatures in the upper 70s. The chance of showers will stick around until about 11 p.m.
By Friday, skies will likely clear, with temperatures rising to the high 70s. The sunny, warm weather is expected to continue through the weekend.
“Cooler temperatures, and a drier air mass,” Simpson said. “So, a nice weekend.”
