Theatre Companies Unite for the 2nd Greater Boston Theatre Expo

(BOSTON) – More than 60 Greater Boston theatre companies of all styles and sizes will unite on Tuesday, September 9 in the Cyclorama at the Boston Center for the Arts for the second annual Greater Boston Theatre Expo. The public is invited to attend the free event held from 5:30pm to 8:30pm to meet representatives and artists from the region’s fringe, small, mid-sized, and large theatre companies, to get information about upcoming productions, and to take advantage of Expo-only ticket offers and giveaways.

“Last year’s Expo exceeded everyone’s expectations both from the large number of theater companies in the region participating and the incredible numbers of theater-lovers –almost 900 — who came and discovered great theatre. And they received some great Expo-only bargains and offers. We’ve added an extra hour to the Expo this year to get everyone in! ,” says David Colfer, general manager of Emerson Stage and Expo co-organizer. “By bringing so many theatre companies together under one roof at the Greater Boston Theatre Expo, organizations will connect with new supporters, and audiences will have the chance to explore this rich marketplace in a format that is convenient, efficient, and free.”

The event is produced by a committee dedicated to supporting, promoting, and raising the profile of Greater Boston’s vibrant and gifted theatre community. The committee was originally formed to help plan the Theatre Communications Group 2012 Conference, held in Boston last summer. The committee includes leaders from the Mayor’s Office, ArtsBoston, StageSource, and a diverse group of theatre organizations.

“On a typical Friday night during the theatre season, Greater Boston theatre audiences have a choice of nearly 40 different theatrical productions from Portsmouth to Providence,” observes Michael Maso, Huntington Theatre Company managing director and Expo co-organizer. “But because of our geographic disparity, it can be easy to overlook our scope, scale, and economic impact on the region. The convergence of more than 50 organizations at the Greater Boston Theatre Expo will be a reminder of the theatre community’s breadth, variety, and vitality.”
