Tsinghua Alumni Association at Greater Boston held an Annual Welcome Summer Gathering and Welcome Party in Arsenal Park on Sunday, Sept. 7.
About 180 alumni attended the summer party, half of whom are students, the other half are employed. The association specializes in academic and is the largest Chinese Alumni Association with about 2000 Tsinghua Alumni in Boston. The non-profit, founded in 1976, is dedicated to serving graduates from Tsinghua University in Beijing and National Tsinghua University in Taiwan, and who study, work and live in Greater Boston. Most of the alumni are from MIT and Harvard University with majors in academics such as physics, engineer, architecture, finance, and liberal arts.
With the help of volunteers, this annual event took about 3 months to prepare for, according to Jiexi Zhang, the chief commander of volunteer and vice president of Tsinghua Alumni Association. The fun gathering involved food and fun sports. While playing sports, the alumni met new friends, exchanged ideas, as well as, received career advices from the employed alumni.
Yuesheng Qi, a PHD candidate in Mechanic Engineer in MIT, wouldn’t mind seeing gatherings like this more often. “I like this kind of activity because alumni in Boston can help Tsinghua graduates who just arrived at Boston and not familiar with everything. Old friends can also get a chance to get together,” he said.
