WALTHAM, MA—Greater Boston’s Indian community holding five major events this weekend—from American Indian Foundation’s fundraising gala to Boston Bhangra to opening of grand opening of the community’s first adult day care center.
AMERICAN INDIAN FOUNDATION (AIF):
BOSTON–The American India Foundation will celebrate another year of its philanthropic efforts with its annual “Bow Ties and Bangles” fundraising gala on Nov. 22 at the Seaport Hotel in Boston. Madhur Jaffrey, an Indian writer and actress who has been active in radio, theatre, television and film, will be the guest of honor.
BOSTON BHANGRA:
BOSTON—On November 22, Boston will hold one of America’s largest Bhangra completions. It will also mark the 11th anniversary of the Boston Bhangra Competition that has been sold out for the last 10 years. Rohit Bhambi, co-founder of Boston Bhangra, says that best Bhangra teams from North America will participate in the competition that is attended every year by 3,000 people.
SHISHU BHARTI:
LEXINGTON, MA—Shishu Bharati, the school of languages and culture of India, is holding “Explore India” event on Nov. 23 in Lexington, MA. Students, families, teachers and volunteers from all three locations (Lexington, Nashua, and Walpole), about 1500 people, are expected to gather under one roof to celebrate and show case their knowledge and pride of Indian languages and culture, by various performances and educational booths.
NOTED PUNJABI SINGER:
SHREWSBURY, MA– Noted Punjabi singer, actor and film producer Harbhajan Mann is set to perform on Sunday, Nov. 23 in Shrewsbury, MA. Organized by Connecticut-based Milan Cultural Association and sponsored by Bollywwod Grill, the event will start at 5:00 pm at Oak Middle School located at 45 Oak Street in Shrewsbury.
ADULT DAY CARE GRAND OPENING:
LOWELL, MA—The Greater Boston Indian community has its first adult day care center and it is totally free. ActiveLife Adult Day Care, which opened about two months ago in Lowell, MA, will hold its official grand opening ceremony on Sunday, Nov. 23. The center currently has about 50 seniors and its maximum capacity is 75. The seniors who have joined the center so far hail from Lowell, Dracut, Burlington, Andover, Methuen, Chelmsford and Westford, among other cities and towns.
