A locally eatery’s crab-themed Christmas tree reigned victorious in the first-ever Christmas Tree Wars.
Big Mike’s Crabhouse Grill built its tree out of wooden crab bushel baskets. Employees decorated it with bright lights and garland before topping it off with a red lit crab.
“It was really a team effort,” said Josh Clemens, general manager of Big Mike’s. “Everybody kind of had an idea and we just went with it.”
A panel of six Hanover-area judges selected the tree, which took a week to complete, as the winner in the Best All Around category, according to a news release from Main Street Hanover.
“Everybody had a lot of fun with it and did what they thought was cool,” Big Mike’s owner Amanda Czapp. “It brought a lot of people downtown.”
Locals helped raise more than $800 dollars for Main Street Hanover by voting on their favorite tree. Shoppers could cast their votes by placing money in the store’s donation jar.
Big Mike’s collected $209, securing the top spot in the Popular Vote category. Clarks Bostonian Outlet placed second with $153 and Famous Hot Weiner placed third with $135.
As Christmas Tree Wars champions, Big Mike’s will get a trophy and hold bragging rights for the next year.
The first runner-up in the Best All Around category was Clarks Bostonian Shoe Outlet, with its shoe-themed tree. Second runner-up went to the Carriage House Market and its Grinch-themed tree.
