Feels like it should be said in a hushed, Steve Irwin-esque voice, but there exists a picture of Bill Belichick standing in a field, soaking in the sun and smiling.
This rare beast comes courtesy of Improper Bostonian, a magazine that convinced the Patriots coach to pose for its cover and open up about his personal life.
The story itself is actually very much worth a read, mainly because it’s not about football.
In the feature, Belichick talks about his work with the “Bill Belichick Foundation” (remember when he was wearing his own sweatshirt — that’s what was featured on the hoodie).
He has managed to raise $100,000 to help various football and lacrosse teams around the world, parsing through applications for funds “like a football coach on cut-down day when he talks about selecting the scholarship winners.”
“We started with one number, and then we read the applications and decided we had to do more,” Belichick says. “You can’t say no to these things, so it ends up being a little more.”
One of the winners? Fields of Growth run by Aimee Dixon, who told the coach at a recent meeting of scholarship winners that the organization is getting ready to open up the Bill Belichick Multi-Sport Complex.
In Uganda.
“I’m sure that nobody will recognize that name there,” Belichick told Improper. “Honored by some place I’ve never been to, so that’s pretty cool.”
Just don’t ask him about his quarterback.
