Fans of Nixs Hartford, the bustling year-old Front Street restaurant and lounge, will soon have a new place to “play nice” across the river. Nixs’ parent company, Bostonian Hospitality Group, plans to open another Connecticut location this fall in South Windsor’s Promenade Shops at Evergreen Walk.

Nixs Kitchen and Cocktails, Bostonian Hospitality’s fifth establishment, is slated to open by the end of November in the former Bellini’s Italian Eatery space, said project manager Ashley Blain.
“It will be much more restaurant-focused; we’re looking to focus more on the kitchen end of it.” New executive chef Sean De La Rosa will oversee both Connecticut restaurants.
Like its siblings in Hartford, Boston, Newburyport and Nantucket, Nixs Kitchen and Cocktails will have a menu of creative drinks, small plates and main dishes, Blain said.
“We know that in a shopping district…we may be a little more family-oriented. There may be some changes to that effect. But it’ll also kind of still have that irreverent, fun, comfort, American tapas in a shareable style.”
The restaurant’s owners saw an opportunity in Evergreen Walk as the development attracted more and more high-end options, Blain said, like the Apple store that opened last August.
“I think that’s definitely the clientele that we appeal to; it’s a natural fit at that point.”
With a large patio, the new Nixs will have seating for 180 to 200, Blain said, and its entertainment component will likely become more of a “lounge” format than its city counterpart’s clubby atmosphere.
“It’s [still] a place you go with your friends to have fun, you can go with your family to celebrate something, it’s all about the sharing and playing nice. We’ll be bringing that with more of a kitchen focus to the Evergreen location.”
