James Massone Attracts Ladies, Not Judges with ‘Just the Way You Are’ on ‘The …

YouTube Last week on ‘The Voice,’ Bostonian charmer James Massone seemed to come into his own and fully realize how magnetic he seems to be with the ladies. Playing on this realization, his coach Cee Lo Green went full-speed ahead into the land of crooners, and the results were mixed. Talking before the show, Green and Massone connected on the fact that they’re both soft-spoken and laid-back, but confident once they get onstage. Green gave him some pointers on being a ladies’ man, adding, “You don’t want to be fixing cars for the rest of your life.” Apparently not seeing his future Continue reading >>>

BWW Review: Legally Blonde is Frothy (Pre-Recession) Fun

Dublin’s Board Gáis Energy Theatre is awash in pink this month with the arrival of Legally Blonde – The Musical. Based on the 2001 Reese Witherspoon film of the same name, Legally Blonde played 595 performances on Broadway. The West End version closed earlier this month after a successful run, which included the 2011 Olivier Award for Best Musical. Legally Blonde tells the tale of Elle Woods, a bubbly Malibu sorority girl who follows her pompous ex-boyfriend to Harvard Law School in the hopes of transforming from a “Marilyn” into a “Jackie” and thereby winning him back. Befriended Continue reading >>>

2012 centennials worth celebrating

The oldest Major League Baseball stadium that's still in use celebrates its centennial today, and the commemoration will be as elegant and Bostonian as you'd expect: Academy Award-winning composer John Williams's tribute, "Fanfare to Fenway," will be performed by the Boston Pops. Fans will come together for a celebratory toast to the park that could set a Guinness World Record. If all of this isn't enough to keep the team's 700+-game sellout streak going, on the field the Red Sox will face -- who else? -- the New York Yankees, the same team they played on April 20, 1912 (who were then called the Continue reading >>>

Tarek Mehanna’s conviction for expressing his beliefs only helps Al Qaeda

On April 12 the United States government successfully convicted another young Muslim male who believed he had the right to express his deep disdain for American foreign policy in the Middle East and Asia. Tarek Mehanna, an American-born Bostonian, took his First Amendment rights quite seriously when he vocally condemned his government for killing thousands of Muslims abroad. As a result, he was convicted of conspiring to help Al Qaeda. While his prosecution may appear to be another success in the nebulous war on terror, it is in fact a victory for terrorists abroad who win hearts Continue reading >>>

2012 NHL Playoffs: Bruins Hit Up ‘Titanic’ Exhibit, Just Can’t Help Themselves

With all the bad blood between the Capitals and Bruins in this year's NHL playoff series, it's nice to see that some of the Bostonian visitors were able to get out and enjoy themselves in our fair city. Young Tyler Seguin enjoyed his lunch on the waterfront Tuesday afternoon until this happened. Getting lunch at the harbor in Washington and a bird just pooped on me and my phone. Good sign. — Tyler Seguin (@tylerseguin92) April 17, 2012 That's kind of gross, Tyler, not that there's anything wrong with that. A few of the other Bruins did the conventional D.C. thing--taking Continue reading >>>

Savor every last bite at these pop-up restaurants; they’ll disappear before …

Eat. The most established of Boston’s pop-up restaurant organizations, Eat is run by Chef Will Gilson and marketing guru Aaron Cohen. The duo has created numerous pop-up restaurants with multi-course tasting menus in diverse locations, such as Mizu hair salon, the British Consulate-General, and Taza Chocolate’s Somerville factory. Tickets to their events generally cost around $70, but they also offer more affordable and casual opportunities, such as the Bacon and Beer Festival, to be held on April 28. Whisk. By day, the space where Whisk is housed is home to Fiore’s Bakery, but at night, Continue reading >>>

Cops Tell Occupy Protesters to Choke on It

(Photo by pwieskel08 on Flickr) By now you’ve seen this picture, taken a Tea Party/anti-Tea Party rally over the weekend. The looks on the two parties’ faces say it all: authority exerted, authority resisted, and the old push-pull between order and those who would change it (or, you know, chaos). Seeing all this it’s hard not to think: When did the Common start to look like the outside of an abortion clinic in Kansas? As a Bostonian and a man of media, I read up on it (The Globe for the latest coverage, as always, and the Herald for the insane comments.) And lo, most of the Continue reading >>>

Hoffman was arrested on suspicion of prowling, burglary and resisting arrest. Tax Day rally held at Sundial Bridge Members of the Bostonian Tea Party gathered for a Tax Day rally Monday evening at the base of the Sundial Bridge. It was the fourth annual event at which tea party groups protest tax rates. A number of candidates running for local political offices attended and addressed the group. The evening included live music, speeches and invocations. Man arrested after cemetery break-in Redding police said they arrested a 40-year-old Continue reading >>>

Margaret Earnest: Pledge to serve all of the people – Record

Margaret Earnest, Cottonwood Pledge to serve all of the people The tea party movement became active back in 2009 on the premise that government should be kept out of the lives of citizens, at least that is how I understood it. Of course we also all know the tea party Medicare recipients want to be certain their benefits continue. That is hypocrisy to my way of thinking, but that seems to be their opinion. Now the local Bostonian Tea Party and perhaps tea party groups across the country are asking candidates to sign a pledge. This pledge allows the tea party to decide whether the Continue reading >>>

Eric Hofbauer & the Infrared Band + Michael Musillami Trio

Johnny D's  Lots of flashy guitarists are content to cut loose over a familiar backdrop of bebop or fusion, showing off their chops with any available pick-up band. But guitarists Eric Hofbauer and Michael Musillami are distinctive writers as well as players, and they’ve each fashioned ensembles who are as dedicated to exploration and new composition as they are. At Johnny Continue reading >>>
