A time capsule that had been hidden in the head of a lion statue atop a historical landmark for more than a century yielded one surprise Thursday — a hardcover book. The Bostonian Society had expected the time capsule to include letters, newspaper clippings and other items from 1901, the year it was placed in the statue on the Old State House. When the copper box was carefully pried open, it revealed at least one mystery: a red, hardcover book with no visible title or markings. The contents of the book — and the rest of the items in the box — will remain a mystery for a bit longer, as they were deemed too fragile to remove immediately. Historical moment at Skylight Studios on Salem Street… Capsule opened but …

WOBURN - The copper box inside the golden-colored lion atop of the old State House in Boston was removed at Skylight Studios on Salem Street but the carefully sealed packet inside the box was not opened today.
