Driver fired over throwing students off bus

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - An East Texas bus driver has been fired after telling students to get off her bus. Last Friday, witnesses saw around twenty Forest Park middle school students get off the bus and start walking on Garfield Drive, crossing High Street, a busy four lane road. According to the LISD bus driver's account of the situation, students were being verbally abusive and swearing at her, when she had enough. "You have unruly kids on school buses; it happens. SPLC confident Accountability Act case will move forward

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Alabama's Attorney General Luther Strange said Tuesday that the Southern Poverty Law Center's case to block the Alabama Accountability Act was, "without merit." "They're not alleging there's anything unconstitutional about the act" said Strange after an event in Wetumpka. The state filed to have the case dismissed in Federal Court. The SPLC filed a lawsuit last month alleging that the school reform measure that allows students to leave failing schools to attend better public or non-public schools, violated the Equal Protection Clause of the US Constitution. Arrest made in Montgomery’s 39th homicide of 2013

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The Montgomery Police Department says it has made an arrest in the city's 39th homicide of 2013, a stabbing death Monday night. Authorities are now arresting and charging 23-year-old Demetrius McBride of Montgomery with one count of murder in connection to the death of 30-year-old Zamian Land, also of Montgomery. McBride was taken to the Montgomery County Detention Facility where he's being held on a bond of $75,000. Alleged ‘Ball Cap Bandit’ pleads not guilty

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - The man known as the "Ball Cap Bandit" entered a not guilty plea in court, Tuesday morning. Cedrick Lamond Hicks was indicted in August on nine counts of bank robbery and two counts of attempted bank robbery after he allegedly robbed several banks across north Alabama. The judge appointed Hicks a public defender at Tuesday's arraignment hearing, but he did not set bond. The maximum penalty for each robbery count is 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
