Op-ed pick: Lehane says bombers messed with the wrong city

Posted at 4:26 PM on April 17, 2013 by Eric Ringham On Tuesday, we aired an interview that Kerri Miller recorded last week with author Dennis Lehane, whose latest novel is "Live By Night." In the last few minutes, he talked about his hometown of Boston. "There's something about Boston," he said. "I've traveled enough to be able to say this. ... There's something in the water that's passed to all of us. Bostonians are just a little odd. You can't understand it until you really live it. They just have a strange perspective on the Continue reading >>>

What Boston Means To America

As a city, Boston is at the crux of this country's past, present and future. This was brought home on April 15 — Tax Day, Patriots Day, Marathon Day — when two deadly bombs exploded on historic Boylston Street near the finish line of the 117th running of the Boston Marathon. The tragic blasts occurred so close to the Boston Public Library that the building — home to the personal book collection of Founding Father John Adams — is included in the crime scene. The bombs struck at the very heart of the heart of America. Perhaps as much as any place in the country, Boston is an anchor thread Continue reading >>>

Jessica Schmuke runs the marathon

The tragic bombings at the Boston Marathon have hit close to home for some Destinites. "It's terrifying to think so many of my loved ones were right there and witnessed this horrific scene," said Robin-Emily Mucha, a Boston native who lives in Niceville and works in Destin. Mucha told The Log that her father-in-law and his wife were at the finish line of Monday's race with their son, who was planning on proposing to his girlfriend after she crossed the finish line. It was near the finish line where a series of explosions took place, killing three and injuring more than Continue reading >>>

Bostonians, runners react the day after explosions rock Boston – WSHM

BOSTON (WSHM) - Boylston Street at the finish line of the Boston Marathon is a setting known for celebration, but in an instant, it turned into chaos and then a crime scene Monday. Twenty-four hours later, it's a place to leave flowers, hang up T-shirts and marathon medals and reflect. "I hope I never have to see something like this again," said Boston resident Robert Pietsch. But thousands will walk up to the dividers blocking portions of Boylston Street, which stands frozen in time - debris and blankets dropped and left when the explosion hit still sit on the street. Onlookers crowded the Continue reading >>>

Famous Bostonians React to ‘Devastating’ Marathon Bombings

Ben Affleck, Tom Bergeron, and Boston mayor Thomas Menino were among many celebrities with ties to Boston who reacted with sadness and disbelief after Tuesday’s marathon bombing that killed three and wounded 150. As details continued to unfold, stars who call Boston their hometown took to social media to call the incident “senseless,” “devastating,” and “upsetting.” Other celebrities searched for hope amid the tragedy: Maria Menounos asserted that, “there’s more good than evil out there,” and Dane Cook told fellow Bostonians, “You will become stronger from this.” Read on Continue reading >>>
