Council denies PTC greenbelt purchase

A resident’s request to purchase a small amount of greenbelt to improve his backyard was denied by the Peachtree City Council Thursday night. Although Councilman Eric Imker was open to the request, the remainder of council agreed that the matter would set a precedent. Ming Lu, who lives at 706 Bostonian Trace in the Centennial subdivision, wanted to be able to create a slightly larger back yard for his children to play in and also extend his deck while adding a covered, screened porch to the deck. Part of Lu’s case was supported by the fact that the home next to him was Continue reading >>>

Mocking Boston: antique edition

Google Books The cover of an Oct. 19, 1911 issue of Life about Boston. Taking digs at Boston is almost a national pastime. The city is a little cold, a little snobby, and a little full of itself—as we’re constantly reminded by the barbs of national politicians and the frustrated, if more affectionate, grousing of Bostonians themselves. Roll back the clock a hundred years, though, and you’ll find...actually, you’ll find the exact same complaints. In 1911, most of an entire magazine issue was published simply to make fun of Boston. The illustrations Continue reading >>>

LeBron Gets Mini-Gatorade Bath From A Displeased Celtics Fan After A …

NBAVideo   For what LeBron James did to the Celtics tonight, he deserves a entire cooler full of delicious sports drink to be poured over his head. But all he got was a spraying from what we must assume to be a pissed off Bostonian, who did not feel this was a good job nor a good effort. It was meant as an insult, but it feels like victory for the King. Here’s the official line: 45 points on 19-26 shooting, 15 rebounds and 5 assists in 45 minutes. Riding the King’s outstanding play, the Continue reading >>>

The Mayor Of Boston Credits "K.J." And "Hondo" With Leading The Celtics To Victory

NBAVideo   We aren’t sure who these K.J. and Hondo are, but they must have some type of background role in the organization. Strange, because their names sound so familiar. All things considered, Tom Menino seems like a nice enough guy. He looks and sounds like your typical Bostonian, complete with saying the word “heart” like “haaart.” But if you’re going to be the mayor of sports crazy Boston, you should at least know a few names to rattle off when the need arises. It’s not Continue reading >>>

Chaos Daily Dispatch #4

Thank god and Timmy that the final day of Chaos in Tejas is a short one. Still recovering from last night's afterparty I decided to duck out of the day shows and let the punks BBQ in peace. Instead I waited til the evening to make my way to Red Seven to see tough guy Boston hardcore band Rival Mob.  How tough were they? I think vocalist Brendan Radigan's stage banter while talking about the crowd's reaction best illustrates (it helps to imagine this in a Bostonian accent): It brings a single tear to my cheek but a tough-ass tear. One that will fuck you all up. I Continue reading >>>

All hail the queen at State Street jubilee party

“I think [the queen] stands for freedom,” said Daniela Krause, 39, of Newton, who is half-British and half-German, a quixotic mix considering the two nation’s histories, she said. “She brought the country from crumbles. British people, like the Americans and the French, don’t have problems showing their heritage. I think England is actually close to the continental US, in terms of spirit.”
