Bostonian’s bid for Australian Open title falls short

MELBOURNE — Lukasz Kubot and Robert Lindstedt won the Australian Open men’s double title in their first Grand Slam as a team, beating American Eric Butorac and South Africa’s Raven Klaasen, 6-3, 6-3, in Saturday’s final. Kubot and Lindstedt dominated from the start, fending off the only break point they faced and wrapping up victory in an hour and five minutes. Bostonian Eric Butorac rises up in doubles down under

Until two weeks ago, Eric Butorac was the one watching the screen. A professional tennis player currently ranked No. 48 in the world in doubles, Butorac, who lives in Boston and is a volunteer coach for the Harvard men’s team, had flown to Australia in late December to prepare for the Australian Open. His wife Maggie, a Marblehead native, had just given birth to their first child, Jack, on Dec. 13. Longtime Boston TV Anchor Chet Curtis Dies

Chet Curtis, a nightly news anchor for five decades in Boston, passed away late Wednesday after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 74 years old.
