BRAGB’s April roundtable luncheon well received

Boston, MA The clout of Builders and Remodelers Association of Greater Boston (BRAGB) was clearly in evidence at the Multifamily Green Housing Executive Roundtable Luncheon held April 11th at the Seaport Hotel in Boston. Among the speakers were Arthur Jemison, deputy director of the MA Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), who informed the gathering that the State and quasi-public agencies were willing and able to help them access the programs being made available under Governor Patrick's initiative to add 80,000 housing units to the Commonwealth by 2020. Boston Strong and Boston Wrong

I truly understand and appreciate why many folks want nothing to do with the corpse of a man who apparently hated America and our way of life. I recognize the insulting irony to having him remain within our borders, even if underground. That does not, however, justify this less-than-silent minority from turning on their neighbors with such hostility. Fundamental to our way of life is the freedom of expression. No one should be assailed for their words or beliefs so long as they do not threaten public safety. I fail to see how advocating for human decency -- even for someone like Tsarnaev who Continue reading >>>

Danvers Gets Honorable Mention in Top Spots to Live North of Boston

Danvers got an honorable mention earlier this week as one of Greater Boston's top spots to live. The status was bestowed by the Boston Globe Magazine in a survey of communities in Eastern Massachusetts where the real estate market is "sizzling," according to the Globe and the Warren Group. They say the market is on the rise and steady, or even small gains in home prices are proving to greatly influence homebuyers' decisions more than other factors. Top billing went to 13 cities and towns where home prices increased the most between 2011 and 2012 and represented relatively safe investments for Continue reading >>>

Green measure OK will cost Boston landlords

Property owners say they fear an energy measure passed by the City Council yesterday could eventually mean they’ll be forced to spend hundreds of millions of dollars to upgrade old buildings — costs, they say, that would ultimately be passed on to their tenants.“Buildings will get scored, and that will get reported to the city, and if you don’t fall into the top 25 percent, you’re going to be looking at audits and potentially upgrades,” said Gregory P. Vasil, CEO of the Greater Boston Real Estate Board. “How does someone with a big debt load on their property afford that? Those costs Continue reading >>>

What ‘Boston strong’ means to one Bostonian

One Leafs’ fan stirred up controversy Monday night after being pictured holding a sign reading “Toronto Stronger” during game three of the Toronto and Boston playoff series. Complete with a blue and white ribbon, the sign was a direct reference to the “Boston Strong” slogan used in support of the city of Boston in the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombings. Some Bruins fans, and citizens of Boston, were upset by the sign because they felt it was offensive to what the “Boston Strong” campaign represented. Margaret H. Coit, who lives in Boston, wrote this piece in reaction to Continue reading >>>
