Melrose soccer stars advance to National Finals

Melrose soccer stars Haleigh Butler, Kristin Randolph and the Mass Premier Soccer U16 Lady Knights took second in the U.S. Club Soccer National Finals, July 26-30 in Waukegan, IL. The Woburn-based club features several girls from the Greater Boston area including Butler and Randolph. The girls faced the best teams from Virginia, Illinois and Mississippi in the tourney. The Knights secured a pair of wins and a tie, which propelled them to the finals against a very strong California squad. California ultimately prevailed in the championship round. Right now, a hungry Bostonian can order a large Papa John’s chicken parmesan pizza for 10 bucks. But watch out: the pizza chain’s founder, John Schnatter, is warning customers that to accommodate President Obama’s health care law, they may have to shell out $10.14. Schnatter, a fundraiser for Mitt Romney, may be accurate in explaining how some fast-food chains will cover the costs of new provisions in the law — by slightly raising prices. Hepatitis C testing continues in Greater Boston Region

Testing of individuals for hepatitis C continues at Exeter Hospital and at additional sites coordinated by the Division of Public Health Services (DPHS). Testing is for individuals identified as patients treated in the Main Operating Room and the Intensive Care Unit of Exeter Hospital between April 1, 2011 and May 25, 2012. Affordable Care Act panel examines contentious issue

The Indian Medical Association of New England and the Greater Boston chapter of the South Asian Bar Association joined together to put on a successful panel discussion on July 18 at Tufts University about recent health care legislation and its impact. Sales Tax Holiday This Weekend; Where Will You Shop in Newton?

As part of the jobs bill the Massachusetts Legislature approved last week, lawmakers passed a two-day tax holiday. The 115-page bill, passed on Tuesday, included a two-day holiday on the weekend of Aug. 11 and 12 from the state's 6.25 percent sales tax, according to the Boston Globe.  Excluded from the tax holiday are restaurant meals, cars, motorboats, tobacco and any item that costs more than $2,500.
