Closing Day

Although most closing days go off without a hitch, some don't. Here is a partial list of some closing day surprises that I’ve experienced: - movers scheduled for 8am the day of a 10am closing (more common than you think) - sellers decided to stay for two more weeks. They said that moving is stressful and they needed a few weeks to move out. - houses full of trash, furniture, etc. (I once opened a closet and a cat jumped at my face.) - title search reveals problems that need more time to resolve - lenders or closing attorneys couldn’t complete settlement statements on time, which delayed the Continue reading >>>

Are you a space hog?

A new 2,500-square-foot home can easily put you back several hundred thousand within 495 - and well over a million if you have your heart set on one of Greater Boston's tonier suburbs. And the fact that new home construction inside of 495 has struggled along at anemic levels now for decades has only served to further inflate the typical new-home premium. Given that, if you are not already a fan of smaller homes, it pays to become one. At the least, it pays to think a bit about whether you need that spare bedroom or that sprawling home office - Jim in Littleon has a great story on that! Remember, Continue reading >>>

Greater Boston to celebrate Hubway bike share expansion

CAMBRIDGE — Matt Miller shapes his schedule around the area’s public transportation infrastructure. He said his system for getting around was nearly perfect, but the influx of bicycle sharing in Cambridge completed it. Cambridge, Somerville, Brookline, and Boston are participating in a “Rolling Launch Party” Wednesday to celebrate the expansion of the Hubway Bicycle Share system. “I ride the bus, I ride the T, and this is like the third ingredient,” said Miller, 39, an assistant dean at Harvard University who purchased an annual membership this spring. “Ever since I got the membership, Continue reading >>>
