Despite knowing little about Ethiopian music, Gershon quickly dug into the reissues of pop and jazz songs from the ’60s and ’70s. Cambridge seeks to rebrand Central Sq.

The second half of the double program requires each sci-tech building to host a social project. Companies could facilitate this project by providing subsidies or floor space for their associated projects. Current ideas for these ventures include middle-class housing, a market hall, a day care center, and space for startups. Under the Commission’s vision, there could be up to 1000 new low-cost or limited-profit housing units, or an increase in arts, design, and media companies. The buzz began when patrons entered the Symphony Hall lobby and saw a young woman modeling an evening gown designed by fashion student JanFrevic Lujares of Brockton. “It’s stunning and quite impressive,” said Susan Wallace of Kingston. “The mix of teal and green is unexpected and the pleated work on the bodice is great.” Wallace then admired the fashions of 10 more designers from Greater Boston fashion schools, who were selected to compete in Project Debussy, a fashion contest last Thursday run by the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Andover’s Jayme Fischman, 40, ran the first leg, the 1,200 meters; Doug Williams, 42, of Marblehead, took the baton for the next 400 meters. Andrew Darien, a 41-year-old resident of Cambridge and a history professor at Salem State University, churned out the next 800 meters before handing off to Arlington’s Chris Simpson, 43, for the 1,600-meter portion of the race.
