Gambling Regulators Weigh Greater Boston Casino Proposals

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission Monday began a final review of the two competing proposals for a resort casino in greater Boston.    The proposed design of Mohegan Sun’s $1.1 billion dollar casino in Revere received a more positive evaluation than did Wynn Resorts’ proposed design for a casino in Everett.  But Wynn’s $1.6 billion dollar project was found to be more  financially sound. Both projects will be judged in several categories before the commissioners begin their final deliberations and possibly vote by weeks end to award a license. Commissioner Continue reading >>>

Wynn casino bid fulfills gambling law’s goals better than Suffolk Downs

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission faces an unusual level of public scrutiny as it decides whether, and to whom, to award the potentially lucrative Greater Boston casino license this week. Voters are watching, and in less than two months they’ll decide in a statewide referendum whether to undo the commission’s handiwork by repealing the 2011 casino law. The commission also faces pressure to award the license to a plan at Suffolk Downs, the struggling East Boston racetrack that lobbied heavily to legalize casino gambling in Massachusetts. But the public has repeatedly been told that the law’s Continue reading >>>

Panel to vote on Boston-area casino this week

Over the next five days, the state’s top gambling regulators will tackle their most important assignment: weigh the merits of competing casino plans for Greater Boston, and pick a winner for the state’s most lucrative gambling license. If the decision tilts on financial issues, the smart bet is Wynn Resorts Ltd., proposing a five-star slice of Las Vegas on the Mystic River waterfront in Everett. The prosperous international gambling company stands on firmer financial ground, and would spend substantially more on the bricks and mortar of its development, according to a Globe analysis.
