Dunkin’ Donuts Could Open 800 Locations in 2014 but Don’t Worry, They Won’t …

Step outside of the Boston and Greater Boston area, and suddenly the coffee-chain craze fades. In no other city, of course, can one find a Dunkin' Donuts on nearly every block, some within a mere donut hole's throw from the next. If anyone in this country runs on Dunkin', it's us. But that doesn't mean the Dunkin' Donuts parent company, Dunkin' Brands Group, Inc., which also owns Baskin Robbins, is resting on its soft, sugary laurels. The chain announced this week that they'll be opening up to 800 new locations in the United States, according to the Boston Globe, a considerable jump from Continue reading >>>

Search by commute, not price

Prospective buyers will get a chance to search by commute time when looking for homes on a new INRIX house hunting platform being rolled out by RE/MAX in New Jersey, Inman News reports . (I'm checking this morning on the plans for Mass roll out and will update you later when I get word.) Of course, unless you are lucky enough to work in the boonies, you are likely to have to pay up to find a house or condo closer to work. The closer you get to 128 and Boston, the more you will pay for a house. But there is also a high cost to be paid in misery if you are stuck in traffic two or three Continue reading >>>

Million bucks and no personality

Here's a piece of mine that just ran in the Globe West. It profiles Jones and another groups of local contractors who are buying older homes now to restore and resell them. Residential teardowns in Needham are soaring, with 94 in 2013, up from 61 in 2012. Typically this number represents older homes - whether we are talking 50s capes or homes from the early 1900s - that have been leveled to make way for $1 million and up McMansions. However, just spending a million doesn't guarantee you anything spectacular, it just gets you a new, relatively spacious home. That's a lot in the Boston Continue reading >>>
