Medford high boys track: On the right track – Wickedlocal

Beware Greater Boston League, these Mustangs are on the move. As he heads into a new year, Medford High boys track coach Tommy Lynch is anticipating big things from his squad this season. “We had an enormous turn out of almost 60 participants [at tryouts],” said Lynch, who enters his third year as head coach, 19th overall with the program. And when you add into that equation a handful of established performers returning to the fold, this could be the team to watch this season. Leading the way for the Mustangs are senior tri-captains Nate Clement and Jeff Chambers. The defending Greater Continue reading >>>

Needham’s New Year’s celebration is a suburban standout

“This year we’ll be performing segments from a variety of classical ballets, including ‘Copelia,’ ‘Romeo and Juliet,’ and ‘Sleeping Beauty,’ but we also have contemporary dances and patriotic numbers,” Umland said. “Our performers are local dancers age 8 to 18, and it’s a good experience for them to perform for the greater community rather than just for the audience of family and friends that our productions typically attract. The audience we get on New Year’s Eve tends to be very enthusiastic, and often expresses surprise at the caliber of what they can see out here in Continue reading >>>

Free legal advice—but does it work?

Almost every morning, staffers at Greater Boston Legal Services arrive at work to find a line of people waiting on the street outside their offices. These people are there because they need help: some because they’re being evicted, others because they’re chasing down child support payments, still others because they’re filing for divorce. Lawyers are expensive, and for millions of low-income people across the United States, nonprofits like Greater Boston Legal Services offer the best—perhaps the only—chance at professional help. Staffed by civic-minded attorneys and paid for with public Continue reading >>>
