TELL US: Who Should Run For Massachusetts Governor?

Lt. Gov. Tim Murray could not hold out any longer. On Thursday, he told the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce he'd like to be governor, according to WBUR.  Mind you, he didn't say he would run, just that he wants to be governor. With the election two years away, starting an official campaign now would be a bit premature.  But Murray's not alone. Governor Deval Patrick has said he will not run in 2014, leaving the door open for Murray and a host of other aspirants for the office. State treasurer Steve Grossman and 2010 Republican gubernatorial candidate Charlie Baker have also expressed Continue reading >>>

And the budgets are finely tuned. Almost 42 percent said they would spend up to $500 on gifts this year. Another third said between $500 and $1,000. That’s in line with the study by the National Retail Federation that I wrote about last month. I liked hearing about the reasons for the firmer budget. About 70 percent said that they had focused on tightening their budget overall and didn’t feel the need to spend as much. Some readers wrote in responses that included, “I’d like to focus less on the stuff and more on the reason for the season and family together time.” Another reader echoed Continue reading >>>

Mass. Lt. Gov. Murray: I’d like to be governor – WHDH

BOSTON (AP) -- Massachusetts Lt. Gov. Timothy Murray is eyeing the governor's office. Murray is one player in what could be a complex game of political musical chairs during the next two years. Others, including Democratic state Treasurer Steven Grossman and Republican Charles Baker, are also Continue reading >>>

Demand for food rising in Mass., but donations fall

In the days leading up to Thanksgiving — the busiest time of year for food distribution agencies — individuals and families are lining up for meals in record numbers, even as food and monetary donations have declined. The increased need is being driven, in part, by the growing number of people falling below the poverty line for the first time, as they struggle to keep up with the rising cost of living, from food to utilities, say agency representatives. “The face of hunger is changing, and Greater Boston Food Bank is serving more and more middle class families,” Catherine D’Amato, the Continue reading >>>

Hewitt, 72, who also could not be reached, generally denied the allegations in an interview with the Globe last year outside his farmhouse in rural Addo, South Africa. But he made several potentially incriminating comments, including, “I just want to forget about it,’’ in regard to his relationship with one of his accusers, Heather Crowe Conner.
