Bare shelves, more demand at area food pantries

The shelves were nearly bare this month when Framingham resident Jenny Marte, a mother of four teenagers, entered the Salvation Army in Framingham where she occasionally gets food to help feed her family. Like the Barenaked Ladies said in their hit song, "If I Had Million Dollars... ...I'd be one of 222 taxpayers in Concord who made at least a million dollars in 2010." The Boston Police Department calls them criminals, extremists and a reason to raise a red flag in regards to ensuring homeland security. Selectmen Say ‘No’ to United Nations Day

Though selectmen say the United Nations have good intentions behind what they do, the Board reneged their original vote to observe a proposed United Nations Day.In a letter to the Board of Selectmen, the United Nations Association of Greater Boston requested that they approve a proclamation and participate in UN Day activities Oct. 24, the 67th anniversary of when the United Nations Charter went into effect. Melrose Outlaws win consecutive AAU tourneys

The Melrose Outlaws are making an immediate impact in the Greater Boston AAU circuit. In their first tourney action, the Melrose Outlaws went undefeated and were crowned champion of their bracket, Sept. 29 at Beverly High School. The team captured its second AAU title in as many weeks, with a big 65-57 victory over the Elite Stars, Oct. 6. AG: Allegations Of Prostitution, Sex Trafficking In Greater Boston Massage Parlors

BOSTON (CBS) — State and federal investigators have arrested three people in connection with a human trafficking and prostitution ring. Attorney General Martha Coakley’s office announced Thursday, Zhen Lai, 37, of Quincy, Joseph Girouard, 55, of Revere, and Wenjie Dong, 49, of Malden were arrested by State Police and agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, with assistance from local police departments.
