Masconomet teams join forces to Walk for Hospice of North Shore

This Sunday marks the 25th walking of the Annual Walk for Hospice of the North Shore and Greater Boston. The walk, a three-mile route through Danvers, is intended to honor the lives and memories of those who have experienced hospice care. All funds raised go directly to providing care for those in need throughout the North Shore and Greater Boston. According to Ronna Thur, a co-chair on the organizing committee for the walk, an estimated 5,000 people turned out for the walk in 2011 and raised over $250,000. DANVERS — When an expected 5,000 walkers step off for the 25th annual Walk for Hospice of the North Shore Greater Boston tomorrow morning, the Tarricone family will be in front of their home, serving free lemonade just like they have every year since 2005. It's a wonderful gesture that's been well-received over the years by thirsty walkers. But this year the tradition will carry even more meaning for the Tarricones. Last month, Jean Tarricone's father, Robert Gudaitis, spent a week at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers before he died on Aug. 18 at age 80, only three weeks after Continue reading >>>

Rudnick joined NECN’s Mike Nikitas to discuss the rise in the unemployment rate from 6.1 to 6.3 from July to August, and the fact that Massachusetts lost 4,800 jobs. How does the Chamber interpret this information?"It's hard to sugarcoat these numbers-- it's not good news," Rudnick said. Hospice of the North Shore & Greater Boston holding 25th fund-raising walk

Patrick — born on July 4, 2008, and named for patriot Patrick Henry — is a popular companion at hospice. He came to the agency two years ago, after being trained as a therapy dog. He spends most days at Kaplan House, but also travels with staff to see hospice patients at their homes. He’s so busy he has his own calendar of appointments. On nights and weekends, he lives with Diane Stringer, executive director of hospice, at her home on Cape Ann, where he loves to take dips in the ocean.
