Garrity named Little East Freshman of Week

Somerville High alumna Kelsey Garrity is off to a fast start on the UMass-Dartmouth basketball team. Garrity, a freshman guard, was named Little East Conference Player of the Week Nov. 21 after averaging 15 points and 7.7 rebounds in the team's first three games. Garrity had 15 points, seven rebounds and six steals in her her season debut for UMass-Darmouth (2-1) against Salve Regina. Prospective New Bedford casino developer files suit against Gov. Patrick

A prospective casino developer eyeing a site in New Bedford filed a lawsuit Tuesday against Gov. Dorchester church food bank gives away 125 turkeys

By Amanda Cedrone, Globe Correspondent Members of a Dorchester parish food bank gave away 125 turkeys this morning, brightening Thanksgiving for needy families. Members of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Dorchester have been handing out turkeys to members of their food pantry each Tuesday during the month of November, said Sarah Borgeson, food pantry director. By the end of the month, they hope to have donated a total of 400 turkeys to families in need. Bus record improves slightly

Two weeks after the Boston School Department cited progress in getting buses to schools on time, more than 12 percent of the buses were still dropping students off late last week. On Friday, about 12.5 percent of buses were late. At the 12 schools with the most late arrivals, 52 buses pulled up after the school bell rang, leaving students to scramble to get breakfast, late for class.
