Marty Walsh Remarks on Uber: "I Support It"

Uber, it seems, is constantly in a battle with someone here in the Greater Boston Area. First: it was the City of Cambridge. Then the taxicab industry picked up their pitchforks. And now Uber is slinging mud with rival rideshare company Lyft. The popular alternative form of transportation has been waiting on support from City Hall, and they've received verbal confirmation of such from Mayor Marty Walsh. Mayor Walsh appeared on Bloomberg Surveillance on Tuesday to discuss Boston's expanding income disparity, cost of housing, the Market Basket protests, economic reform and enticing investments Continue reading >>>

Google’s Cambridge office shows local tech scene’s new vigor

Google’s new office in Cambridge’s Kendall Square is more than just a fresh exemplar of high-tech office architecture, with its mix of open space and hidden corners, of flat screens and soft, yielding chairs. It’s also an unexpected tribute to Greater Boston. In seeking to expand its local footprint, Google passed up opportunities to move, at far less cost, to new quarters across the river in almost any of Boston’s new office buildings. Instead, the company negotiated with the owners of the Cambridge Center complex and city officials to construct a costly “connector” between two buildings, Continue reading >>>

Avoid Injuring Yourself While Moving With These 19 Medical Tips

Allow me to regale you with a quick anecdote about my moving experience this season. I tried in vain to maneuver my oversized couch up four flights of narrow, crooked North End stairs. With the help of my brother, we angled and shimmied the couch until we came to the unfortunate realization that the heavy piece of furniture would not budge another millimeter upwards. And then it came crashing down on my toe. After a day or two of limping and an unsightly bruise on the largest digit of my right foot, I couldn't help but speculate that many of Greater Boston's movers were experiencing the Continue reading >>>

Thanks to films like “Good Will Hunting,” interactions with local writers, and interviews with local journalists, Williams left an impression on the Boston community which won’t soon be forgotten. 1. ‘Good Will Hunting’ Williams won an Academy Awards for his portrayal of rough-edged, Boston community college therapist Sean Maguire in “Good Will Hunting” (1997). Reagle’s ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ awash in nostalgia

The Reagle Music Theatre of Greater Boston prides itself on offering suburban audiences “Broadway at your doorstep.” And the Reagle delivers a reasonable facsimile with its final production of the summer, “Singin’ in the Rain,” playing the Robinson Theatre in Waltham through Sunday. Just remember that this musical adaptation faithfully follows the classic 1952 movie set in 1920s Hollywood, so in addition to singing and dancing, it’s got a strong whiff of yesteryear about it, from the broad characterizations to the cheerfully old-school plot. Continue reading below If you bring Continue reading >>>

Wynn’s political donations raise questions

Wynn Resorts, the casino company vying for the Greater Boston gambling license, donated $200,000 last winter to the Republican Governors Association, the same organization that is now playing a key role in boosting Charlie Baker’s run for governor. The state’s gambling law prohibits applicants for casino licenses from donating, directly or indirectly, money or in-kind contributions to “any group, political party, committee, or association organized in support” of a Massachusetts candidate. The association is a major funder of a television ad that is currently airing in the Boston market Continue reading >>>
