Procter LLP, a national Am Law 50 firm, will celebrate the 10th
anniversary of its Neighborhood Business Initiative on Thursday,
November 10, 2011, at Boston’s historic Old South Meeting House. The
Neighborhood Business Initiative is a community outreach program that
provides pro bono legal services to low-income entrepreneurs and
small-business owners in underserved neighborhoods throughout Greater
Boston. Goodwin Procter partners with community-based organizations to
provide direct pro bono legal representation and neighborhood-based
legal workshops and clinics through the Neighborhood Business Initiative.
Since 2001, more than 350 Goodwin Procter attorneys and paralegals have
donated more than 10,000 hours of pro bono legal assistance to
small-business owners and entrepreneurs through this unique program.
The celebration will include the following speakers and topics:

Regina M. Pisa, Chairman and Managing Partner of Goodwin Procter, will
speak about the firm’s commitment to providing pro bono legal services
to low-income entrepreneurs and for community development. -
Mitchell Weiss, Chief of Staff for Mayor Menino, will speak about the
City of Boston’s commitment to its neighborhood businesses and the
neighborhoods they anchor. -
Representatives from Brewing the American Dream, a partnership between
The Boston Beer Company, Inc., and ACCION USA, Inc., in the Sam Adams®
Brewing the American Dream loan fund.
The event will also include recognition of the program’s 10-year
partnerships with Belin Economic Justice Project of the Lawyers’
Committee for Civil Rights Under the Law of the Boston Bar Association;
Dorchester Bay Economic Development Corporation; ACCION USA, Inc.; and
Jamaica Plain NDC.
The event will take place from 6:00-8:30 p.m. at the Old South Meeting

The objectives of the Neighborhood Business Initiative are:

To provide pro bono legal services to entrepreneurs and small-business
owners who are low-income and/or members of underserved communities
and/or whose businesses positively impact underserved neighborhoods. -
To provide pro bono legal resources, including workshops and clinics,
in low-income urban neighborhoods, in particular the Dorchester,
Roxbury and Jamaica Plain neighborhoods of Boston. -
To provide Goodwin Procter attorneys and other legal paraprofessionals
with a wide range of pro bono opportunities in the community.
