Somerville High alumna Kelsey Garrity is off to a fast start on the UMass-Dartmouth basketball team.
Garrity, a freshman guard, was named Little East Conference Player of the Week Nov. 21 after averaging 15 points and 7.7 rebounds in the team’s first three games. Garrity had 15 points, seven rebounds and six steals in her her season debut for UMass-Darmouth (2-1) against Salve Regina. She also had 14 points and seven rebounds against Maine Maritime in the Curry College Tip-Off Tournament. She finished the week with 14 points and nine rebounds against Curry College in the same tournament.
Miranda named All-State
Many individuals from the Somerville boys soccer team were honored after leading the team to a Greater Boston League title season. Thayrone Miranda received the most distinguished honor, taking home All-State All-Star and EMass. All-Star recognition. Mateus Reis was also named an EMass. All-Star. Miranda, Reis, Andre Rolim and Edgardo Perez were named First Team GBL All-Star. Junior Pierre Louis, Richard Rodrigues and Francisco Neto were named Second Team All-GBL.
Volleyball team makes tourney
The Somerville girls volleyball team finished 13-9 overall and 6-2 in the GBL. The Highlanders finished second in the GBL Tournament before advancing to the quarterfinal round of the Mass. Interscholastic Athletic Associaton Tournament. The Highlanders beat Madison Park in the opening round.
Higgins, O’Leary named All-Stars
Junior Kyle Higgins and senior Charlie O’Leary, both of whom played on the Somerville golf team, were named GBL All-Stars.
