I had heard that the line for Tiffani Faison’s new barbecue restaurant, Sweet Cheeks, was out the door on opening night, so I was pumped to hit up the opening party Monday night after work. And apparently I wasn’t the only one.

Yo Tiffani Faison, I’mma let you finish, but Sweetcheecks has the best fried okra of all time

After rappers Kanye West and Jay-Z took the TD Garden by storm Monday night, they were hungry for some serious grub. That’s why their tour manager called up Sweet Cheeks, and put in a massive order for the concert’s team to chow down on during their road trip to the next tour stop in Montreal. The only problem? The restaurant was closed to the public for the party! 200 Bostonians were inside partying and playing rowdy games of flip-cup on the patio. But that didn’t stop Faison and her team from hopping back into the kitchen at about 10:30pm, where they prepared almost the entire menu, including everything from pork belly to ribs to broccoli cheese casserole. They sent it all over to Jay-Z and Kanye, including full place settings with legit plates and silverware. (I wonder if they get that back…)

Earlier that day, Kanye and his lady friend popped into the La Perla lingerie boutique on Boylston for a little retail therapy, while Beyonce attempted to shop on Newbury Street. However, the staff wanted to stay mum on Kanye’s shopping trip, “out of respect to him.” I’m all like, ohhhh I’m sure you and Kanye are just best friends, huh? Ugh. Anyway, here he is outside La Perla with a fan, before hauling it back into the Four Seasons.

Over the weekend, we tracked Kanye down everywhere from California Pizza Kitchen to Pinkberry. Maybe someone told him to lay off the chain restaurants, and that’s how he got hooked up with the bbq.

As for the party, the crowd was a mix of the typical restaurant industry folks that like to party their butts off on a Monday night, and then writer nerds like myself, and PR people. I spotted Sonali from AMM, Amelia and Haley from Marlo Marketing, Jo from the Moxie Agency, the team from the Improper Bostonian, a couple Boston Magazine folks, Gilt City saucy minx Erica Corsano, a wise old turtle that looks like Quincy Jones, O Ya manager Alyssa RuralFather Suburban Paternal Figure UrbanDaddy scribe Dan McCarthy, and some highly intoxicated individuals.

Thanks Chris and Alexandra.
