Letter: Donations are a blessing for food pantry

To the editor:

First Baptist Church and Pantry of Hope would like to extend a very heartfelt “thank you” to the Melrose community for the overwhelming outpouring of support during the Thanksgiving season. We have been receiving many canned goods donations as well as many generous monetary donations. It is because of your help that we can continue to help and make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.

We recently gave more than 40 turkeys provided by the Greater Boston Food Bank as well as more than 60 gift cards from local supermarkets. Your ongoing support makes this outreach possible. We would like to especially thank the Melrose Chamber of Commerce for their collection of canned goods during Halloween, Melrose City Hall, Weight Watchers on Route 1, Kappa Charities, the Melrose Garden Club, the Horace Mann School, Green Street Baptist Church, the Methodist Church, the Unitarian Universalist Church, the Redeemed Christian Church of God, the Melrose Clergy Association and the many, many individuals and families who bring us food and or who support this ministry financially.

We do what we do in Jesus’ name and we truly appreciate all your help. Melrose is a compassionate community that continues to help and make a difference in the lives of many. We thank you for making a difference in so many peoples’ lives. — Rev. Damaris Cami-Staples, First Baptist Church, Main Street, Melrose
