(NECN) – It may be December, but we’re talking about Red Sox baseball under new management and much more as we go on the record with the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce President Paul Guzzi.

From a business perspective, how did Guzzi receive the news that Bobby Valentine is the new manager of the Boston Red Sox?

“Happy Valentine’s Day, only earlier. It took some time, but this is an experienced, disciplined manager, and he’s had a winning record so I’m very optimistic that he’s part of what the Red Sox need,” said Guzzi. “Of course, the Red Sox and sports are so much a part of Greater Boston and New England, I view it as very good news.”

Guzzi acknowledges that business booms when teams win and that there are still decisions to be made on the player front for it to be good for Boston economically.

The Federal Reserve Bank released its Beige Book survey Wednesday which showed an increase in economic activity in most regions, but only a “slow to moderate” rate of growth.

What’s going on here?

“The good news here in Greater Boston and Massachusetts are that there are sectors that are really exceeding the national growth metrics, including technology, for example medical devices, and interestingly enough tourism and advanced manufacturing. Where we’re lagging a bit is in real estate, specifically commercial real estate. Slow growth is better than no growth.”

Watch the interview to hear what Guzzi thinks about Gov. Patrick’s trade mission.
