CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sophomore Eimear Black (Glengormley, Ireland) needed a bit of time off after her second-place finish at the Northeast Conference Cross Country Championships. She returned to the track on Saturday at the Harvard University Invitational, winning the mile run, and joining 11 other Bulldogs with top-10 finishes, as the Bryant University track and field teams closed out the fall semester.

An Ireland native, Black won the mile run with a time of 5:14.20, less than a second ahead of the second-place finisher. Bryant’s women’s team also received top-10 finishes from Brooke Tomasetti (Waterford, Conn.) and Kara Walsh (Waltham, Mass.) in the 800m run, Jasmine Bryant (Salem, Mass.) in the 60m hurdles and Danielle Davis (Brentwood, N.H.) in the high jump.

Tomasetti finished seventh in the 800 with a time of 2:22.55 and Walsh was right behind her with a time of 2:23.98, finishing 10th. Bryant continued the strong start to her Bulldog career with a sixth-place finish in the 60m hurdles, finishing with a time of 9.41. Davis’s jump of 1.45m placed her 10th in the high jump.

On the men’s side, the Black and Gold registered several quality finishes. For the second-straight week, the Bulldogs thrived in the mile run, as three runners all placed within the top 10. Scott Twardowski (Rehoboth, Mass.) finished fifth with a time of 4:21.71, Ryan Busby (Derry, N.H.) was sixth with a time of 4:21.91 and David Hurley (Ashaway, R.I.) finished eighth with a time of 4:23.19.

The Black and Gold also got top-10 finishes from Nicholas Douglas (Shelton, Conn.) in the 400m dash, Anthony Monteiro (Leominster, Mass.) in the 500m dash and the 60m hurdles and Colin Flanagan (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) in the 500m dash. Douglas sped to a seventh-place finish in the 400 with a time of 50.93, while Monteiro and Flanagan finished 8-9 in the 500. Monteiro’s time of 8.54 placed him seventh in the 60m hurdles. Bryant’s men’s 4×440 yard relay team of Douglas, Kevin Louine (Mattapan, Mass.), Kyle Reid (North Raynham, Mass.) and Michael Arons (West Hartford, Conn.) added a third-place finish.

Other top finishes for the Bulldogs included Lauren Ganim (12th) and Megan Robertson (14th) in the mile run, Joanna Carroll (11th in the high jump), Arons (26th in the 60m dash), Louine (12th) and Reid (20th) in the 200m dash, Brian Sears (16th in the 400m dash) and Chris Brida (12th in the triple jump).

Bryant will prepare for exams and then enjoy the holiday break before returning to the track in January. When the Bulldogs return, they head back to Cambridge, Mass., to compete in the Greater Boston TC Invitational on January 22.
