Greater Boston YMCA lowers membership costs

To mark the beginning of 2012, the YMCA of Greater Boston is reducing fees for adult memberships at all of its 13 branches around the city and neighboring suburbs.

Prices are down as much as 15 percent, ranging from a $50 monthly rate for adults aged 30 – 64 at the Waltham and Oak Square branches to $30 for adults at the Dorchester and Roxbury locations. Memberships include access to all fitness facilities, swimming pools, exercise classes, and wellness and nutrition consultation, as well as discount prices on special programs.

“The YMCA of Greater Boston is all about healthy living, social responsibility and youth development,” Kevin Washington, president and chief executive officer for the health-focused nonprofit organization, said in a statement.

“To further that goal, we want to ensure that the Y is affordable for all members of the community, from children to young adults to families and seniors. Everyone can benefit from the services of their local Y and this will make it easier for all during this difficult economy.”

The Y has also expanded its young adult category to include residents 18 – 29, who will pay from $25 – $40, depending on location. Adults up to age 26 who are living with parents are eligible to participate in the family plan, and the Y will continue to offer financial assistance to those who cannot afford standard membership prices.
